When was the last time you had an actual key to your room at a hotel?
Do you remember having a key attached to a key chain with the room number on it? And if you lost it, the hotel staff were put out, because they might/would have to change the locks.
I recently stayed two nights in a historic hotel which made me think about what hotels used to be like for historic travelers. Running water and a place to sleep were the essentials, while now a fitness center and free wireless are reasonable expectations.
